GRANDE PRAIRIE – On April 1, 2025, Aquatera will conduct vapour testing of the wastewater system along 101 Avenue to 105 Avenue and 117 Street to 120 Street. This work will be carried out by SFE Global as part of routine maintenance to ensure system efficiency and reliability.

During this test, customers may notice small amounts of vapour coming from nearby vents, manholes, or other system access points. This vapour is not expected to enter homes or buildings; if it does, it may be due to a dry floor drain or an infrequently used fixture within the plumbing system. To prevent this, Aquatera recommends pouring four cups of water into any basement floor drains. This practice should also be done periodically in sinks or shower drains to maintain a proper seal.

Vapour testing helps identify leaks or cross-connections where rainwater or surface drainage may be entering the wastewater system. Reducing unnecessary inflow improves system efficiency, minimizes environmental impacts, and helps lower wastewater treatment costs. The vapour used in testing is non-toxic and poses no health risks.
