MEDIA RELEASE
Fire at Aquatera Water Treatment Plant Non-Serious
September 30, 2016
GRANDE PRAIRIE – A small fire at Aquatera’s Water Treatment Plant is non-serious and will not impact to the quality of the water or the water treatment process.
Just after 2 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, a small chemical fire developed due to an equipment failure. Fire crews arrived on scene at approximately 2:15 p.m. and the fire was quickly extinguished.
“Luckily enough, we were still in a testing phase with the equipment, which was completely isolated from the rest of our system at the time of the fire,” says Chelsea Lewis, Communications Manager. “The Water Treatment Plant was not shut down at any point and residents will not see an impact in service.”
An investigation is ongoing and Aquatera is working with the manufactures to determine the root cause of the incident.
